I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a meteorologist, a meteorology student, or a meteorologists wife.
But now, I know, because I have the chance to be one.
I’ve been invited to be an assistant meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s (NWS) Washington, DC office.
This means that I have full access to all of the NWS offices weather data, and the ability to analyze and predict extreme weather.
For the first time, I can even see and hear the forecasts coming in.
My wife, a retired meteorologist from New York City, is the one who always told me how important weather is.
We’ve had a good relationship since she graduated from Cornell University in 1975 with a degree in atmospheric science.
She has taught me that I should always keep an open mind and be ready for any challenge.
She taught me the importance of looking at a storm as a challenge and not just a chance to get home.
The next time you are at work, be ready to look up.
